The Perfect Artist's Portfolio Review
Monday, May 05, 2008
This article is excerpted from a talk Brian Parkin gave at the Moab Photography Symposium in May 2008 called "Show Time"

- Visit the gallery's website and familiarize yourself with the physical location of the gallery and the type of work it carries.
- Call ahead to set up an appointment and confirm the day before.
- Bring eight to twelve finished images ready-to-hang or frame-ready.
- Works should form a complete series which has a title.
- Title, number, and sign each work.
- The work should be fresh, recently made, and in the case of prints and photographs, the whole edition should have been printed by the artist.
- Artworks should be intriguing, have a feeling of being lit from within, and be market priced.
- Offer derivative works (prints, note cards, posters, books etc.) at very reasonable prices.
- Leave behind a resume and promotional materials with a space for the gallery stamp.
- Want the gallery to be your sole regional representative.
